Andi Gutmans has a reminder for all of those wanting to get their presentations in for this year’s Zend/PHP Conference and Expo - the Call for Papers ends tomorrow, May 31st 2007.
In October, 2007 we are hosting our 3rd annual Zend/PHP Conference near San Francisco. It is a great opportunity to meet other people from the PHP community, meet with various users of ours who are building business-critical applications, get to meet some of the commercial eco-system builders and of course hear what Zend is up to.
This year’s conference is being held at the Hyatt Regency at the San Francisco Airport October 8th through the 11th. The general overview of each day of the conference has been posted already and you can register now to reserve your place!

DevShed launches a new tutorial series today with this new article, an introductory look at using the PDO objects in PHP5.

This issue has been reported in versions prior to 2.1.8 on Linux and Windows and the solution is easy - just upgrade to a newer version such as 2.1.8 or later. The Secunia post has links to some of the needed downloads.

On the SpinDrop blog today, Dave Dash continues his look at the Lucene search engine for the Zend Framework with this new post showing how to boost certain terms’ relevance in the search results.
Lucene supports boosting or weighting terms. For example, if I search for members of a web site, and I type in Dash, I want people with the name Dash to take precedence over somebody who has a hobby of running the 50-yard Dash.
He shows how to, with the help of a few simple lines of PHP code added to your application, you can easily boost terms based on field by whatever multiplier you choose.
