PHP Developer - May 17th, 2007
From the “Your SEO Plan” website today, there’s a new book review posted covering the Wrox Publishing book (by Jaimie Sirovich and Cristian Darie) - “Professional Search Engine Optimization with PHP: A Developer’s Guide to SEO”.
I was very aware, when Professional Search Engine Optimization with PHP arrived on my doorstep, that I reside somewhere in the fringe of their target audience. Written by a computer programmer-turned-search-engine-marketer (Jaimie Sirovich) and software engineer (Cristian Darie), this book should prove very satisfying to “left brain” readers looking for a book that gets down and dirty in the code.
The reviewer (Gradiva Couzin) mentions things he liked about the book - the topics it covers, the “red flags” it mentions - he also mentions some places where the book is slightly lacking. In particular, including just enough of the marketing side of SEO so as not to alienate non-programmers. Outside of that, though, Gradiva didn’t have many complaints.

The Zend Developer Zone has officially announced their own contribution to the PHP podcasting arena - their new show, phpabstract.
Announcing the newest tool for PHP Developers, PHP Abstract. PHP Abstract is a twice weekly podcast to help developers hone their skills. Each episode features a different special guest bringing you their expertise, compressed into a five to seven minute package. We will be covering a broad range of topics. From security to project planning and hiring good developers and much more.
There’s no show posted just yet and the link to the RSS file for the downloads is yet to come, but the concept sounds promising. Keep an eye on the Zend Developer Zone for more information coming June 5th.

On the CorePHP blog today, there’s a new how-to posted dealing with the installation and configuration of a Windows XP system running Apache 2, PHP4 and PHP5.
I’m very happy to announce that I’ve just released my comprehensive guide to installing, configuring and running Apache 2, PHP 4.4.7 and PHP 5.2.2 on Windows XP. The guide is broken down into small manageable sections and contains over 50 screen shots of the entire process, so you won’t go wrong while following it.
The guide helps you set up a Windows XP machine with all of the needed software, including the setup of a virtual host to make switching back and forth between PHP4 and PHP5 simple.
