A press release has been published from Senza Limiti about their acquisition of the PHPScripts.se’s Ajax-enabled DataGrid component and intentions to release it under both an Open Source license and a commercial license (like MySQL has done).
The PHP Grid is an Ajax-based table component that shows database information in a good looking, easy to use way. All user actions are performed in real time, on the client side, giving instant feedback and providing a desktop-like user experience. Among its features are Excel support and an automated print function that presents the table in a printable format. It also allows instant editing of database rows.
You can get the complete details on the component from these pages on Senza Limiti’s website.

Back with his own look at the php/db|works conference is Cal Evans wrapping up Day Two:
Day Two at php|works started off with a bang. Rasums presented his “Getting Rich with PHP” as the opening keynote. If you’ve never seen this presentation, the OSCON version is described here with links to a video of it as well as the slides. It’s an interesting presentation. I missed the first section of it at OSCON where he slaps around both IE and FLASH pointing out some serious security holes. Again, it’s a great presentation and worth the time to listen to.
Cal talks about…well…the talks and about the interviews he started (like with Chris Hartjes, Ilia Alshanetsky, Chris Shiflett, and Sebastian Bergmann).

Rather than clogging up the lines around here with all of the “I’ve posted my slides” postings that come with all of the conferences this fall, we’ve decided to gather all of the ones we know of all in the same place - our Talks Page.
Since the php/db|works conference is currently going on, those are the first that we’ve posted. There’s only been a few people that have spoken up in their blogs about it, but there’s definitely more out there.
In fact, if you’re one of those giving a talk at the conference and have no place to put the files for your presentation, let us know and we’ll post them here and link to them for you.
Even if you’re a conference-goer, you can help out. If you hear of someone mentioning where they’re posting their presentation and notice it’s not on our list, drop us a line and let us know.

Continuing on in their series of working with stand alone PHP scripts, DevShed has posted this third and last part looking at the creation of a basic script you can use to monitor your server (an excerpt from Advances PHP Programming by George Schlossnagle).
Last week, we continued our discussion of PHP standalone scripts with child processes and more. This week, we conclude our discussion and bring together what you’ve learned.
They start with the creation of a very basic daemon, including permission restrictions. They then modify this heavily to support the monitoring of processes through various parameters like frequency, status_time, and a description of the service. They then create the full example script and show the usage by checking to see if a URL passed in can be opened.
They also include, as a bonus, another more useful script that will email someone when the specified service goes down (still a HTTP check, though).
