Scott Mattocks has a quick update for anyone out there looking for a little something left out of the source code from the APress site for his book, “Pro PHP-GTK” - the SQL you’d need to get started.
The source code available for Pro PHP-GTK from the Apress site is missing the SQL needed to get started with the demo application. I will try to get the source code updated ASAP. Until then, the file can downloaded here.
As he mentions, the new version of the source code with this update should be out soon enough, but if you’ve been struggling with the backend of the sample app, this will definitely help.

Christopher Jones has a quick update today on two of the guides Oracle provides from it’s Technology Network site:
They’ve both been updated to include the latest editions of both PHP (5.1) and Oracle (10.2). You can find these and a lot more Oracle/PHP know-how over on their Oracle Technology Site.

According to this new post on Chris Shiflett’s blog, his consultancy company has been scooped up by OmniTI, employer of several active members of the PHP community including George Schlossnagle, Theo Schlossnagle, Wez Furlong, and Laura Thomson.
I’m very excited to announce that OmniTI has acquired Brain Bulb, which basically means that I’m now a principal of OmniTI and get to work with some of the smartest and friendliest people around.
The combination of working with super smart people and getting to work on super cool and important stuff is a lot of fun. Want to join in on the fun? We’re hiring PHP and Perl developers. (Knowing MySQL and PostgreSQL is also a big plus.)
There’s also some comments blogged by George , Ben Ramsey, Wez, and an official press release for public consumption. Congrats to all parties involved - definitely a step in the right direction.

WordPress users all over the world have commented on how far behind the administrative area has lagged behind the power of the rest of the site. Fortunately, there’s been a project underway to bring it up to date. Unfortunately, according to Melvin Rivera, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.
Let’s be frank here, WordPress rocks, no doubt, but since it’s early beginning, the interface design has lagged behind it’s technical powers. This is why since December of 2004, Khaled, Michael Heilemann, Joen Asmussen, Chris J Davis, Joshua Sigar and later Bryan Veloso started Shuttle, a collaborative effort to bring design beauty to the WordPress admin interface. Well, it’s been almost a year and a half and the Shuttle team finally release their final mockups to the public.
He notes that the screenshots in this post seem somewhat disappointing. He (and loads of other WordPress users) were hoping for something a bit more “slick” and usable instead of just a rehash of the same look and feel with a few bells and whistles. He even links to another plugin that gets a bit closer (Tiger Administration)
